About this game

An arcade experience with roguelike RPG mechanics.

In The Gauntlet, take your party of 3 characters into turn-based battle againt floor after floor of monsters. As you progress through floors, your characters level up and learn new abilities.

Graphically, The Gauntlet paints a super stylish lo-fi pallette over classic pixel art sprites.

With roguelike mechanics, your party members experience points will not persist when falling in the Gauntlet. However, their abilities and other attributes will remain.

It seems like a fine game, but it could really use with a better intro and more information. For instance, there's no explanation for what defending does technically. Does it absorb up to so many points? Does it negate attacks? Does it defend attacks on party members? What do the spells target? Is it single target or multi target? For how much damage? Can you change targets? The queue on the side is so small, is hard to see the icons. There's a ton of wasted screen space, too.

When my friend and I were thinking of own ideas for classes and various other systems for what we thought would make a good RPG, this reminds me of that. I wonder if this game will ever implement more systems like shops or equipment. From my first play through, the game is fairly simple and the only drops you get are healing and recovery items as well as skill points to progress your classes. This of course means there's alot more room for content. One thing though I had a frame rate drop at F30

Looking good so far but we really need the ability to decide which enemy we are attacking. EDIT: figured it out, you have to DOUBLE TAP on the enemies. Maybe make it a single tap or explain this somewhere in the beginning. Also it would be nice to have some semblance of choice of our "path" each floor with RNG rooms we can choose between to reach the boss at the end, kinda like Buriedbornes. I wanted a simple team roguelike but this is a little TOO simplistic still. But off to a good start!
