unfortunately it's become very pay to play, the majority of new content is realistically available to only the top 1% of spenders. the new player experience is still good, it's fun to collect and level the characters. the story in the campaigns is enjoyable, nothing earth-shattering, but compelling and well-written. the "story" in newer content is severely lacking by comparison. the game is much better if you find a good alliance, use the tools on the companion website to facilitate that.

I've been playing this for a couple weeks now, and I'm really impressed. Yes there's a lot of monetization going on, but even f2p gives you lots to do and lots to buy with in game currency. This game is also really generous with characters and loot, and there's so much to do that it never feels like you have to buy energy or gold to keep going. The combat is dynamic and fun, though it can drag on occasionally. I use 3x speed. For a game of this type, I think this is a really solid choice.

Game has gone way downhill compared to how it was before. Old characters are generally stronger vs new ones, minus a few. All events now are based on money, you get almost nothing unless you pay $35 per event now, every few days. Before you had to play the game a lot to reap rewards, now if you want to do anything, your wallet is absolutely required. I used to buy here and there, but now that it's become forcefully money based, I refuse. You either pay rent or you pay to be decent, not great.
