About this app

About four (04) lakh people are victims of snakebites in Bangladesh every year and about seven thousand five hundred (7,500) people die. Most of the people die due to unscientific treatment of the patient through Ojha or Veda and delay in taking the patient to the hospital. So knowing the necessary information about snakes and taking precautions can save lives from snake bites. With this objective in mind, this mobile app named awareness, rescue and protection in the country has been developed under the Innovation Grant under the Sustainable Forest and Livelihood (Sufal) project under the implementation of the Forest Department in the establishment of Smart Bangladesh.

This app has ten (10) important features. Through this app common people can easily know the overall details of fifteen (15) venomous and fifteen (15) non-venomous and mildly venomous snake species. In addition, signs, symptoms and actions after snake bite; First aid for snake bite; All general hospitals (60), medical college hospitals (36), upazila hospitals (430) in the country regarding snakebite treatment and antivenom availability, mobile numbers and Google maps have been attached so that the public can easily contact the hospital after snakebite; Contact features to know and know any information related to snakebite and wildlife rescue; District wise list of trained snake rescuers for snake rescue; Common superstitions related to snakes, important videos and importance of snakes, list with pictures of snake species in Bangladesh and national emergency numbers etc. are available in this app.

Snake bite is an unexpected accident. Snakes bite both day and night. In our country, snake infestation increases during monsoon. The number of snakebites is high during the rainy season, because during the rainy season snakes take refuge in higher places around the house in search of dry places due to the drowning of rat holes. In Bangladesh, snakebites are usually the victims of common people living in rural areas. Common people have many misconceptions and superstitions about snakes. The main objective of this app is to remove these misconceptions and superstitions and to make the public aware of what to do after a snake bite.
