A HISTORY OF THE WATER CLOSET is a concise history of the development of the water closet, or toilet, beginning with crude privies in monasteries and ending with London's sewer system clean-up in the 19th century. Included are descriptions of the various types of chamber pots, toilet furniture, gadgets and mechanical devices invented prior to the toilet as we know it today. The final chapter of the book covers the emergence of indoor bathing, and early indoor plumbing in both England and France.

MARILYN CLAY is the acclaimed author of over thirty books, including twenty-one novels, three books for children and numerous non-fiction titles, including three books on Regency period furniture. A former University Editor with the University of Texas at Dallas, Marilyn Clay enjoyed a long career as a professional commercial artist and illustrator in Dallas before beginning to write novels. In 1991, she founded The Regency Plume, an international newsletter focused on the English Regency period in English history. The Regency Plume ceased publication in 2006, although all 94 timeless issues of the newsletter are still available for purchase from The Regency Plume website.
