Heroine began as Wells' award-winning solo performance, winning a Scottish Theatre Arts Trust Award and a Made in Scotland Award on its World Premiere at Assembly Rooms, in The Edinburgh Festival 2018. Heroine's USA debut was at The Kennedy Center, Washington DC, in February 2020.

Brilliant! Mary Jane Wells is astonishing bringing such vulnerability and truth. The whole experience is like being “inside” her life. The whole cast and sound scape is amazing. A vital story teaching us all about our own ability to transform trauma into a life of beauty and healing and authentic strength. A must experience!!!
