Mem Fox is Australia's foremost writer of picture books for young children including the beloved Possum Magic (1983) and Where is the Green Sheep? (2004). Possum Magic is the all-time bestselling book in Australian history. Fox has written more than 45 children's books, many of which have become international classics. She has also written five non-fiction books for adults. Her books have been translated into 23 languages. One of her most recent books is Meerkat Mayhem (2024), illustrated by Judy Horacek. Fox was awarded the Dromkeen Medal in 1990 for 'outstanding achievement in the creation of Australian children's and young adult literature', and was honoured with a Centenary Medal in 2001, a prestigious award given to individuals who have contributed to Australia's success as a federal nation.
