When Dennis Dorgan is unexpectedly declared the loser in a boxing match against Kid Leary that he quite obviously won, he realizes something has gone amiss. The situation grows worse when his manager comes in and reveals that he has lost all his money and his ship because of the loss. When the crooked referee comes to Dorgan and tells him that the fight was fixed for a reason, Dorgan agrees to help him shake up the bad guy and straighten out the situation. Dorgan quickly learns that things aren't as they seem and finds himself in the middle of some dangerous shenanigans.

He is known as the father of sword and sorcery, a sub-genre of fantasy/historical fantasy, which involves sword-wielding heroes and violent adventures. Howard's most famous creation in this genre was Conan the Barbarian. He tragically committed suicide at the age of 30 but his name and literary legacy have lived on.

About the author
Robert E. Howard was born in Peaster, Texas on January 22, 1906. At the beginning of his writing career, he primarily wrote pulp fiction and had numerous stories published in the pulp magazine Weird Tales including Spear and Fang, The Hyena, Wolfshead, Red Shadows, and The Shadow Kingdom. He created the character of Conan the Barbarian in the pages of Weird Tales. By 1936, almost all of his fiction writing was in the western genre and his first novel, A Gent from Bear Creek, was about to be published. He committed suicide on June 11, 1936 at the age of 30.
