The California Covenant: Five Sacred Books for the Digital Age - From Silicon Genesis to the New Promised Land *Plus Joshua

The California Covenant reimagines the first five books of the Bible as a powerful modern testament set in contemporary California, where the Garden of Eden blooms in the Golden State and ancient stories of liberation speak directly to today's struggles for justice and community. This interpretive work centers the experiences of foundational Black American communities alongside the rich fabric of European, Latino, Asian, and Indigenous families who call California home, weaving their stories of displacement, resistance, and hope into the timeless biblical narratives of exodus, wandering, and covenant-making. From Silicon Valley's tech creation myths to Oakland's community organizing, from the Central Valley's agricultural justice movements to San Francisco's housing rights activism, these five sacred books translate ancient wisdom into urgent contemporary truths about economic inequality, environmental stewardship, and the ongoing quest for the promised land of true equality.

Moving beyond traditional biblical interpretation, this work serves as both spiritual guide and social justice manifesto, showing how the fundamental themes of liberation theology manifest in California's diverse communities today. The narrative traces humanity's journey from the digital "fall" of corporate dominance through various forms of modern bondage toward the establishment of just communities governed by principles of mutual aid, restorative justice, and shared prosperity. Each book builds upon the last, creating a comprehensive vision for how ancient covenantal relationships can guide contemporary efforts to build beloved communities in an age of technological transformation and climate crisis.

Additionally, I have written a sixth book, "The Book of Joshua," as an add-on that continues the narrative into the actual claiming and distribution of the promised land, exploring how communities successfully implement the covenant principles established in the first five books through concrete actions of land redistribution, community governance, and the establishment of sanctuary cities throughout California.
