Most of his stories have the rural background and while creating the picture of a rural life, he does not ignore a single aspect of it. He very minutely describes every detail in his stories. He succeeds to present the mentality of the whole village as such. He expresses the lifestyle of a farmer, his relations with other members of the society, the new politics, the caste system, and every such aspect related to a social life. राजन गवस यांची कथा ऐंशीनंतरच्या कथापरंपरेतील एक महत्त्वाची कथा आहे. त्यांच्या कथेतून आधुनिक काळातील स्त्रीविषयक विशिष्ट मूल्यदृष्टीयुक्त जाणिवा, बदलता गावगाडा यासंबंधीची आशयसूत्रे प्रभावीरित्या आविष्कृत झाली आहेत. समकालीन कथेतील त्यांचे वेगळेपण म्हणजे त्यांच्या कथेतून संपूर्ण गावाचे भान प्रकट होते. गावाचा म्हणून एक संवेदनस्वभाव असतो, तो या जीवनदृष्टीतून साकारला आहे. बदलत्या गावगाड्याचे चित्र या कथेत पाहायला मिळते. कृषिसंस्कृतीतील विविध तर्‍हेचे संबंध, समूहमानस, नवे सत्तासंबंध, जातीयतेची उतरंड याबद्दलचा जीवनार्थ ही कथा व्यक्त करते. गेल्या तीनेक दशकभरातील महाराठ्रातील गावगाड्याचा बदलता अवकाश ही कथा चित्रित करते. आधुनिक काळातील शहरकेंद्रित मूल्यदृष्टीचे लोण हळूहळू ग्रामीण जीवनात कसे पसरते आहे व त्यामुळे या लोकमानसामध्ये घडलेल्या पालटाचे, स्थित्यंतराचे, त्यातील ताणाचे चित्रण ही कथा करते. या गोष्टीमुळे कृषिसंस्कृतीतील एकसंध सहजीवी जीवनदृष्टीला तडे बसत आहेत व स्वार्थार्थ, व्यवहारी, उपयोगितावादी जीवनदृष्टीची रुजवात होते आहे, याची सूचना ही कथा करते. या कथेत शहरी आक्रमणाचा ताण सतत केंद्रवर्ती राहिलेला आहे. नव्या कृषिसंस्कृतीकडे पाहण्याची एक नवी मर्मदृष्टी ही कथा देते. म्हणूनच राजन गवस यांची कथा वैशिष्ट्यपूर्ण ठरते. तिच्यात जीवनार्थाच्या अनेक शक्यता सामावल्या आहेत.
