About this ebook

Albert Manlii has walked this earth for more than two thousand years, but survival on his own was never easy. Now he leads a faction of highly organized vampires who carefully guard the secret of their existence. Unlike the old days, potential recruits are carefully selected and presented with an offer.

Phillip Brewer has weeks to live -- if he lets his disease run its course. He doesn’t want to die, but given a choice, will his desire to live outweigh his concerns about the vampires’ ethics?

When the new recruit’s missteps are cause for concern, can Albert control the fallout, or will Phillip’s life once again be torn apart?

A short but compelling story. The Recruit is a short novella that presents a new twist on vampires – at least it was a new twist for me. In this story vampires are somewhat benevolent beings who recruit new "members" only when they are needed to fill out their ranks. They also don't have to hide during daylight hours. Phillip is dying and Albert wants to recruit him and thereby save his life. After Phillip agrees he has to go through quite a bit of training. Since this is a short-ish story I don't want to say too much and give away too many details; the blurb does a good job of describing the story. I had only one minor concern with The Recruit. The term blood-mate was introduced but never fully explained. From the way it was used I gathered that it is something comparable to the term fated-mate as used in shifter stories, but a bit more explanation about it would have been appreciated. I found The Recruit to be different and interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not at all an erotic story but it does have a nice level of off-page heat. I would enjoy reading more stories set in this vampire world. An advanced copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author. ***Reviewed for Xtreme-Delusions dot com***
