About this ebook

This book comprises select proceedings of the annual conference of the Indian Geotechnical Society. The conference brings together researchers, practitioners, and academicians on various aspects of geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering. The book presents papers on various geotechnical applications, covering topics such as (i) AI/ML applications in geotechnical engineering, ii) analytical, physical, and numerical methods, iii) geoinformatics applications in geotechnical engineering, iv) case studies, v) dams/embankments, vi) foundation engineering, vii) geoenvironmental engineering, viii) geohazards risk reduction and probabilistic analysis, ix) characterization of geomaterials and site investigations, x) geosynthetics engineering, xi) geotechnical earthquake engineering, xii) ground improvement, xiii) landslides and slope stability, xiv) offshore geotechnical engineering, xv) rock mechanics and rock engineering, xvi) sustainability in geotechnical engineering, xvii) tunneling and underground construction, xviii) unsaturated soil mechanics, and other related topics. The contents of this book will not only be of interest to researchers but also to practicing engineers.

xiv) Offshore geotechnical engineering, xv) Rock mechanics and rock

engineering, xvi) Sustainability in geotechnical engineering, xvii) Tunnelling

and underground construction, xviii) Unsaturated soil mechanics, and other

related topics. The contents of this book will not only be of interest to

About the author

Dr. Akanksha Tyagi is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee since July 2019. She obtained B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology in the year 2011 and was awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Gold Medal. She has done M.Tech. in Geotechnical specialization from IIT Bombay in the year 2011-13. She earned her Ph.D. from the National University of Singapore in 2018, and received the NUS Research Scholarship from prestigious National Research Foundation (NRF) Singapore and Ministry of Education (MOE) Singapore.

Her research interests include tunnelling and excavations in soft soils, in-situ ground improvement techniques (jet grouting and deep soil mixing), numerical modelling of rainfall-induced slope instabilities, random finite element analysis, and geotechnical centrifuge modelling.

She received the Bright Spark Lecture Award from International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) at the Indian Geotechnical Conference (IGC) 2024. She is the recipient of ‘IEI Young Engineers Award 2024' in Civil Engineering discipline from The Institution of Engineers (India). Dr. Tyagi is an Associate Member of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and also serves as an official member of DFI Soil Mixing Committee, Deep Foundations Institute. She is an Associate Member of The Institution of Engineers. She is also a Life member of Indian Geotechnical Society and a nominated member of TC-307: sustainability in geotechnical engineering, ISSMGE for the term 2022-2025. She serves as regular member at the Hill Roads & Tunnels Committee (H-10), Indian Roads Congress for the tenure 2025-2027. She is the individual life member of Tunnelling Association of India.

Dr. Tyagi’s research works are published in reputed peer-reviewed journals and international conference proceedings. She is featured in the book “Daughters of Indian Soil” for being among 75 Influential Indian Women in Geotechnical Engineering, published by Indian Geotechnical Society in 2023.

Dr. Anumita Mishra is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee since July 2019. She obtained her B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from Visvesvaraya National Institute of technology Nagpur in the year 2013. She earned her Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in the year 2018. Her research interests include geotechnical utilization of waste and recycled materials, solid waste management and landfill engineering, pile foundations in soft soils, and embankments constructed on soft ground. Dr. Mishra received the Best Associate Editor Award for the Journal of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste ASCE in the year 2025. She is also the recipient of ASCE 2021 Outstanding Reviewer Award for the Journal of Hazardous, Toxic and Radioactive Waste ASCE. She also served as the guest editor for Special Issue on “Recovery and Reuse of Resources and Energy in Innovative Landfill Technologies” in Journal of Hazardous, Toxic and Radioactive Waste ASCE. Dr. Mishra is a Life member of Indian Geotechnical Society and a corresponding member of TC215: Geoenvironmental Engineering, ISSMGE for the term 2022-2025. She was recognized as one of the 75 Influential Indian Women in Geotechnical Engineering in the 2023 publication “Daughters of Indian Soil” by the Indian Geotechnical Society. Her research has been published in reputed peer-reviewed journals and international conference proceedings, with one of her papers selected for the Editor’s Choice collection by the Journal of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste for the Issue July 2023.
