I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Charity gets caught in a dangerous situation. She's overheard a conversation that was never meant to leave the hotel room. Charity works at a hotel in Pennsylvania as a maid. She grew up sheltered and protected, but now she is in full panic mode. Jake is a contract killer discussing business with a perspective client when he spots Charity hiding in the hotel room. Now, not only is Jake a hitman, apparently he's a kidnapper too. Charity is no match for Jake's size and demeanor. She's an innocent in every way, but make no mistake, she's a smart, capable woman who got caught up in a bad situation. She's trying to deal the best she can. Hoping that by being compliant with her captor, she plots her way to make it out of this predicament alive. Jake has other plans. He has a lot of money riding on this contract. Jake has to deliver. Charity is collateral damage in his line of work. That is, she was, up until he asks her for help. Charity is going through the motions, hoping Jake will set her free when his contract has been fulfilled. Jake, on the other hand, has grown fond of Charity and he has plans of his own. Charity is learning real quick about the real world. She's quickly shedding her shy, unworldly side and becoming strong and brave, more open to what life has to offer. Jake is losing some of his roughness and becoming somewhat protective of Charity. Is it possible for these two to meet somewhere in the middle? You definitely need to read this book to understand how Charity and Jake transform. He knows he doesn't deserve her and she doesn't deserve the life that comes with a man like him. Alexis Abbott grabbed my attention at the beginning and kept till the end. There was suspense, action and some romance. I felt the attraction between Charity and Jake. I also knew there was more to Jake than we were seeing. Charity is quiet, sheltered and innocent. She wants more for herself and is trying to break away from her parents. She is taking small steps toward this. Jake is the epitome of bad boy, but yet we could see his heart. For me this was a fun read. I did feel the ending was a little rushed. I felt a little unfulfilled I had many questions as to how Charity's parents dealt with her and Jake. I received an ARC edition for a honest and voluntary review.

Charity has graduated from college but has been unable to find a job in her field, so she works as a maid at a hotel. She has been sheltered and protected her whole life so when she overhears a conversation between a hitman and his client she is unprepared when the hitman decides to take her captive. Jake has made a living as a hitman and one of the reasons for his success is no witnesses, but he doesn’t condone hurting innocent people either. He takes her with him and during the course of their adventure she realizes there is much more to him than his job while Jake develops feelings for her and begins to wonder who is the captive and who is the captor. I liked the transformation of the characters and you realize that some things in life aren’t black or white but different shades of gray. The chemistry between Charity and Jake was intense and they were perfect for each other. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
