O’Neill der Problemstellung des Erfassens von Geschichte in der Postmoderne. O’Neills Ausführungen zeichnen zwei Extreme von filmischer Historiografie als Möglichkeiten bzw. Gegenpole auf einer Achse – der historistische Revisionismus gegen das von ihm identifizierte Modell des phantasmatisch-transzendentalen Modus. Diese Hausarbeit soll sein Modell in Abgrenzung zum Gegenpol darstellen, Aspekte der Schlüsselbegriffe Trauma, Zeugnis und Fantasie einbeziehen und das Gesagte am Film Velvet Goldmine (R: Todd Haynes, USA 1998) diskutieren, welcher auch von O’Neill selbst als ein Beispiel genutzt wird.
