Quello del ricattatore è un lavoro sporco, che richiede coraggio e sangue freddo. Nicola non ha né l'uno né l'altro: è un essere spregevole, vile, giocatore incallito e infine assassino. Quando scopre di essersi involontariamente messo sulla strada di Diabolik si fa prendere dal panico. E ha ragione, perché non c'è modo di sfuggire all'ira del Re del Terrore. Nicola però è fortunato, o quasi: Diabolik lo disprezza al punto da non prendersi neppure la briga di ammazzarlo. Lascia che finisca in galera, e tanto gli basta. Non immagina che se lo ritroverà accanto e che proprio il ricattatore assetato di vendetta gli offrirà la chiave per una delle sue spettacolari fughe.
