Cassie has been fostering a German Shepard for Josh, who was deployed overseas a year ago. They've been keeping in touch by Skype and he's really excited to be coming home. He really wants to be with his dog and he wants to know much more about Cassie. When the day finally comes, Cassie is having conflicting thoughts. She's fallen in love with the dog, even though she promised herself she wouldn't. And she sure hadn't counted on falling in love with Josh. This is a sweet Christmas short story. Likeable characters, lovable dog. A few misunderstandings along the way .... and each not knowing what the other is thinking. It's a fast, pleasurable read .. perfect for Christmas .... and maybe a little Christmas magic. Many thanks to the author who provided an advanced copy of this short story. A cute Christmas read! I enjoyed this book, it was a lovely, easy read - great for when you need a little 'me' time over Christmas but only have an hour or two. Josh is hot, sexy, confident, thoughtful and totally in love with his dog - basically he is the complete package....how could you not fall for him?! Cassie is completely in love not only with Mandy, her best friend for the last year, but also Mandy's gorgeous owner who she has slowly fallen for more with each and every Skype call over the year she has looked after Mandy. Will she work up the confidence to tell him how she feels or will she let them both walk out of her life? This is a cute romance, a little fast moving at some points - but then it is a novella, very little drama or tension, just a sweet love story about two people falling in love, knowing they only have a short time together. Can they let go, fall completely and trust the other to catch them? Or will they allow their doubts to rule and allow the fortnight to pass without admitting how they feel? I was sent an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review

"A Soldier's Christmas" by Barbara McMahon is a sweet, clean, and heartfelt romance. This is soldier Josh Marquette and Cassie Smith's story. Josh was being deployed and would not be able to take his dog. If he doesn't find someone to care for his dog while he is deployed, then he will have to find another home for his dog. Through friends Cassie found out about Josh needing someone to care for his dog. Cassie and Josh met and she agreed to care for his dog while he was deployed for a year. During the time Josh was deployed they used Skype so that Josh could check on Maggie, his dog. The Skype sessions also became times where they could just talk and keep up with what was going on in each other's life. The year is up and now it is time for Josh to pick up his dog. Cassie is going to miss the dog and the Skype sessions with Josh. Or will she have to say goodbye to them? A quick read that is clean and sweet. I enjoy Barbara McMahon's stories. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
