Da der Betrieb eines INSAR, insbesondere in Hinsicht auf die Kosten, mit relativ großem Aufwand verbunden ist, stellt die Modellierung eine Möglichkeit dar, das INSAR simulativ zu betreiben. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde dazu eine Simulationsumgebung entwickelt, welche die Prozesse des INSAR - angefangen von der Aufzeichnung von Radardaten, so genannter Rohdaten, bis zur Erstellung des Höhenmodells - simuliert. Die durch die Simulation gewonnenen Ergebnisse können dann weiter verwendet werden, um aufbauend auf den INSAR-Daten eine Navigationslösung zu entwickeln.
