Berlin in den 1920er Jahren: In einer Vielzahl von Bars, Kneipen, Kabaretts, Cafés und Theatern erklingt Musik. Sie ist eingebettet in bestimmte Handlungskontexte und steht in Bezug zu den Räumen, in denen sie erklingt. Menschen treten hier als Gestalter hervor, an Orten, die sich in einem sich anbahnenden Institutionalisierungsprozess befinden. Hier, im Kabarett oder in der Bar, können musikalische und musiktheatrale Handlungsräume prototypisch erprobt und experimentell entwickelt werden, bevor sie in institutionalisierte Routinen übergehen. Diese Orte, Brennpunkte sozial-kulturbildender Aktivität, werden in dieser Arbeit als "Hot Spots" bezeichnet. Soziale und akustische Räume, (An-)Ordnungen und das Repertoire werden zum Ausgangspunkt einer Studie, die der Arbeitsbiographie des Pianisten und Komponisten Mischa Spoliansky durch das Berlin der Weimarer Republik folgt
