About this ebook

The Montgomery Ink series continues with the so-called sensible sister and the one man she never should have fallen for.

For Thea Montgomery, baking isn’t only therapeutic, it’s also her dream job. She’s worked countless hours keeping her bakery afloat, and now that it’s where she wants it to be, she’s ready to expand and take the next step. When it comes to work and her family, she’s on top of her game. Her personal life, however, is a different story.

When Dimitri Carr isn’t teaching and hiding his ink under long sleeves to keep the bosses happy, he’s trying to be the best brother and friend he can be. After his divorce, he’d thought he would lose Thea from his life forever because she’s his ex-wife’s best friend. But now that he’s free, and the two of them realize they want to keep their friendship. Then he finally sees what he’s been missing all this time.

But there are more problems than the fact that Dimitri is Thea’s best friend’s ex. And when accidental touches and flirtations aren’t enough for either of them, and they’re finally ready to take the next step, they’ll find out exactly what that cost is for crossing that line. And will need to find the strength to face it.

First and foremost, I think my review would be remiss if I didn’t mention that this book begins with the heroine, Thea, in bed with someone other than the hero, Dimitri. For many readers, including me, this is a serious no-go. However, in Restless Ink, the encounter was written in such a way that it didn’t bother me that much. I didn’t even need to put the book down and take a break; I was able to just keep rolling with the story. I think the whole thing felt a lot different than other books I’ve read with this particular element since the encounter between Thea and this other guy is way less than satisfactory. And for Thea, sex with a dud in the end leads to a really interesting and telling interaction with Dimitri. So…Thea and Dimitri. You never know how falling in love with your ex’s best friend books are going to go but Carrie Ann Ryan has already proved that she’s a master at smoothing out the situation to perfection (Exhibit A: Inked Expressions). Restless Ink was no exception to Ryan’s mastery and I found this book to be entertaining and an incredibly quick read. The integration of family, both biological and found, in all of the Montgomery Ink books always draws me back and in this book we not only got to see the Colorado Springs Montgomerys but also Dimitri’s siblings and whole bunch of the tattoo shop crew. I really hope we get to see more of Dimitri’s siblings in the future and more of the nearby tea shop owner, Abby. Even in the darkest moment, this book remained even-keeled enough that my heart didn’t race and I didn’t feel anxious. Which, for me, is usually a sign that the book was interesting enough to hold my attention but that it wasn’t quite a 5-star read. Ryan built the story in a way that it was easy to never question that Thea and Dimitri were meant for each other, so I was comfortable in knowing that these two would thrive together eventually. If you are deep into Carrie Ann Ryan’s Montgomery Ink, or Montgomery Ink: Colorado Springs, world, this is a must-read. However, for those new to Montgomery Ink this isn’t the book I would start with since it began with Thea in bed with someone else and the tattoo shop that this series is built around (and is a serious draw for readers) is farther removed than in the other books.

Montgomery Ink: Colorado Springs #2, Oooooo the feels in this book. Thea was friends with both Molly and Dimitri before they married but after the divorce as much as she didn't want to pick sides she ended up siding with Molly, not like Molly really gave her a choice. But now that the divorce is over and has been for some time Dimitri wants his friend back it's bad enough his apartment doesn't let him keep his dog, Captain is staying with Molly until he can find a bigger place, most of his friends were Molly's friends in the first place and they all sided with her, but Thea was his friend and he wants that friendship back only this time when he is with her his feelings are more than just platonic. Thea always knew what she wanted and she went out and did it, owning her own bakery is everything she hoped it would be but now she's the only single sibling and feeling like the fifth wheel and doubting whether or not focusing on just her career was wise. Now that she has one dream achieved another has quickly grown in its place but it is going to be hard work and once again places work before love life. Unless the guy in her life is completely supportive and sweet and gruff and a certain tattooed math teacher who use to be married to married to her best friend. Thea feels guilty for falling for Dimitri, but they know each other so well and she can't help her feelings or the regret the fantastic sex and Molly seems okay with it so what can be the problem? Overall, another fantastic book from Carrie Ann Ryan. I loved Thea and Dimitri they are characters with plenty of dimension and flaws and the dog Captain such a sweet dog. It does fall close to the erotica side of romance but because it is story driven; the story mainly focus on their romance and the issues around it rather than the sex, I classify it more contemporary. It is beautifully written third person POV that switches focus between Thea and Dimitri with all the feels and heartache with some excitement and damn woman, Roxie and Carter! OMG, I can't not wait for their book. But I do have to admit Dimitri could never be my book boyfriend because I am Team Tony.

Another winner for me. I love how Carrie Ann Ryan's characters intertwine and appear across her series! And any Montgomery is good for me. In this latest installment, Thea, Shep's sister, battles her feelings for her friend versus a feeling of loyalty to another. She and Dimitri were friends, but she was 'best friends' with his Ex, Molly. I wondered how they'd work, because, yeah, girl code. I guess a heart wants what it wants, but I wasn't sure if I'd buy into it. I did feel sorry for Dimitri, he lost everything, AND his dog as his new apartment didn't allow them. The relationship between him and his ex was so complicated. I'd initially felt like they were two mature adults, who still loved each other, but weren't 'in love' with each other. Molly kept the dog and Dimitri got to see him and take him out. And he continued to help her out around the house. Molly's friendship with Thea was another subject. I thought it a friendship, of sorts, but not a 'bestie' friendship, and I wondered when Thea would wake up and see that. Especially since her sisters did. After Molly professed to be so happy for her two friends when she found out that that they'd made out, I started paying even more attention to the little things she did. Her passive aggressiveness toward Thea, her sweet nastiness towards Dimitri became even more noticible. Against that backdrop and other issues, I enjoyed reading the sweet friends to lovers story. Thea had her hands full with her bakery and her ideas for expansion, and Dimitri coping with his unhappiness in his personal life and his professional life with a new administration at the school he taught in. I loved the acceptance of the Montgomery crew, as always, as they accepted and befriended Dimitri. And that's when I love seeing old friends again! Not going to spoil, but this HEA was hard fought and I loved it. Can't wait to read Roxi's story next!
