यह उपन्यास एक ऐसे प्रेमी युगल की कहानी है जो अलग अलग धर्मों से है और विवाह के पवित्र बंधन में बंधना चाहते हैं ,लेकिन समाज की बनाई परंपराओं के अनुसार उन्हें परिवार वालों के द्वारा विवाह करने की अनुमति नहीं मिलती है। मगर दोनों ने जो एक दूसरे से ज़िन्दगी का हमसफ़र बनने का वादा किया था उसे परिवार वालों के फैसले के खिलाफ जाकर निभाया। इस उपन्यास में और भी मुख्य सामाजिक मुद्दों पर चोट की गई है ,जैसे:- बेटा और बेटी के बीच शिक्षा में भेदभाव, प्रेम प्रस्ताव ठुकराने पर एसिड हमला जैसा कुकृत्य और फिर एसिड पीड़ित को समाज द्वारा हीन भावना से देखना। इस उपन्यास में लेखक ने इन सारे ज्वलंत सामाजिक मुद्दों को बड़ी जिम्मेदारी से पिरोया है ताकि समाज को सही संदेश दिया जा सके।
