About this ebook

Samira became the archivist to get away from her arrogant rival, Tajamar. But now she's ordered to let him live with her, she must do all she can to stop him from learning her secrets. She can't risk him discovering what's really going on in the Emperor's Palace, not while his loyalty still lies with her previous Family.

But as Tajamar spends more time in the archive, he starts to question everything he's been taught about the five Families and what they stand for. When Samira is attacked by the mysterious shadow-stealers he finds himself wanting to protect the empire and it's determinedly independent archivist.

Can Samira and Tajamar put the past behind them and learn to trust each other? Or will the divide between them, and the different Families, allow the shadow stealers to gain the one thing which will give them the empty throne?

About the author

Clarissa has always lived more in the world of daydream and fiction than in reality. In her writing she explores purpose and belonging across worlds. Having never found an actual portal to faeryland, she creates her own fantastical worlds where dragons, fae and other magical creatures rule.

She now lives in the Netherlands with her family, where she writes as much as they will let her. When not reading or writing, she drinks too much tea and has a burgeoning obsession with Bundt cakes.

Clarissa is the author of the "Dragons of Kaitstud" and "Lost Princess of Starlight" YA fantasy series, and the "Expat Life" series of non-fiction guides for families moving, and living, abroad.
