I loved being in Dexter's head, but the other characters fell really flat for me, and the plot itself seemed rather lackluster. Show aside, I didn't feel like I got to know any other character but Dexter, and LeGuerta at the end just seemed really forced, and Brian's reveal felt like it came way out of left field, I would have thought Dexter would investigate like he did in the show.... Disappointing all around with the exception of being in Dexter's head.

I loved the show! It helped me to identify all the characters easily. It started off nearly the same as the show but ended quite differently. Great for fans of the show, and new to the series altogether! Worth the buy and read!

Has some significant differences from the show, which I really enjoyed. There's a certain plot point of this story that really only works without the context of the show in mind. Besides that, it was extremely enjoyable. it's quite an easy read and not too long, with certain elements and interactions with the dark passenger that's not seen in the show. However, please don't read any of the descriptions for the other books in the series, major spoilers are included.
