About this ebook

Featuring beautiful watercolor paintings, this multicultural children's book tells the story of China's child emperor.

"A long time ago, the Littlest Emperor ruled the largest empire in the world." So begins this story about a little boy with big responsibilities, an even bigger heart, and his search for something he's never had: fun. Though the Littlest Emperor has everything you'd ever think he might want, he doesn't know what fun is. So, with his trusted Grand Adviser beside him, he sets out across his empire in a grand search for how to have fun. Author David Seow spins a magical Chinese children's tale about finding happiness in the most unexpected of places.

Filled with a host of memorable characters and delicious dialogue that young children will savor (and older ones delight to read aloud!), and illustrated by the renowned artist Olga Polunin with warm hues that reflect the pan-Asian spirit of the story, The Littlest Emperor promises to become another favorite in our growing collection of Chinese children's books.

About the author

David Seow was born and raised in Singapore. He studied at the University of Portland, Oregon, where he received a BA in Communications, and his professional career has run the gamut from public relations and advertising to scriptwriting. He is the author of numerous well-received children's books, many of which feature his young niece and nephews as the main characters.

Illustrator Olga Marie Polunin is an artist whose work has been inspired by the early religious works of Asia and Europe. She is of Russian-English and Hakka Chinese descent, and her paternal grandparents, Vladimir and Violet Polunin, were respected artists and friends and colleagues of Diaghilev, Matisse, Picasso and Bracques. In her work, Olga seeks to explore her Asian roots through images of the feminine form, and Chinese influences are particularly evident in her series of nude paintings. Her work has a poetic simplicity and is filled with humor, wit, sensuality and spirituality, and her paintings have been exhibited in New York, Brussels, Boston, Hong Kong, Jakarta and Singapore. She currently resides in Belgium.
