I am a true lover of the original Odd Thomas... This book took a massive nosedive in quality of story. To say this book was a far departure is underselling just how boring this read was. This is my second time reading it, and clearly I needed to to update my rating. I can't get over how slow this book is to any action at all. It's all details of what's going on and almost no dialog. How can you have a book on battling "evil" without dialog between the good and evil characters? It's all descriptive... Almost no story! The character of Danny is unlikeable because there is no story/character build for him. Odd goes about the first book telling you of his close relationships with the people of Pico Mundo, but never mentions this dude. The evil group is also flat. The men (Andre and Robert) in the group don't speak, so no care there for those characters. Datura is evil for the sake of being evil and, again, no character build. I really wanted to enjoy it more the second time, I didn't. 2/5

The series goes Odd Thomas (the original) 2003 release then, Forever Odd, Brother Odd, Odd Hours, Odd Apocalypse, Deeply Odd, Saint Odd. There were also three graphic novel prequels released and 1 interlude novel. Just started the series now hopefully the rest of the novels are as good as the original. P.S I love Terrible Chester and miss Stormy!!!!

Not as good as the first, I think simply because Odd is so out of the loop with his grief. So in a way it's fitting for the story. Still a good read though.
