I Certificati di Investimento - Investment Certificates - sono strumenti finanziari derivati che consentono di investire su qualsiasi mercato di interesse e che incorporano strutture che vanno dalla più semplice replica passiva dell’andamento dell’attività sottostante a strutture più complesse che combinano tra di loro differenti componenti per realizzare determinate strategie di investimento. Dal punto di vista della natura giuridica, i certificati sono definiti come strumenti finanziari cartolarizzati, poiché si tratta di titoli al portatore negoziabili. Sono attività finanziarie ibride, ottenute dalla combinazione di due diversi strumenti finanziari, uno dei quali è, in genere, costituito da un derivato. I Certificate, in quanto strumenti finanziari derivati, sono caratterizzati da una rischiosità elevata, il cui apprezzamento da parte dell’investitore è ostacolato dalla loro complessità. I Certificate sono costituiti da una combinazione di più opzioni e l’investitore deve tenere presente che il valore dei Certificates dipenderà dal valore di ciascuna opzione componente il Certificate stesso. Si può affermare che il prezzo dei Certificates non è determinato unicamente dalle variazioni nel valore dell’attività sottostante.
