Dorothy L. Sayers (1893-1957) was a British author and scholar, best known for her detective fiction featuring the character Lord Peter Wimsey. She was born in Oxford, England, and attended Somerville College, where she earned a degree in modern languages. Sayers worked as a teacher and advertising copywriter before turning to writing fiction. Her first book, "Whose Body?" (1923), introduced the character of Lord Peter Wimsey, a gentleman detective with a flair for solving crimes. Sayers was also a prominent figure in the early 20th-century women's suffrage movement and was one of the first women to be awarded a degree from Oxford.
