Qui è all’opera un implacabile ascoltatore, il Testimone auricolare, che, se «non affatica la vista, in compenso ha un udito tanto più fine», prende nota di tutto ciò che sente e lo trasforma in personaggio. Lo seguiamo con qualche sgomento per la sua precisione, e insieme gli siamo riconoscenti: grazie a lui scopriremo infatti da quale archetipo discendono certe voci che abbiamo incontrato e ancora ci molestano nel ricordo perché non abbiamo saputo identificarle con sicurezza.
