I suppose someone had to deal with this topic, this "situation" as common as it was then, but frankly I found it extremely stressful and painful to read. As a woman who began to question my mother's pronouncements as early as 5 years of age, who knew by 8 that Mother did not always know best or even know what was real and logical or at least admit to the truth if she did know, well, ... I simply could not understand Millie or how she could not see her mother's character in light of her mother's strained relationship with her father and how Millie could bear to deceive and torture herself as she did for ten years denying reality, her own eyes, ears and body, preferring to believe her mother's opinion was or could be the only correct interpretation of reality. To imagine someone so incredibly timid that they could not have asked anyone during puberty or did not have any interactions with other children or other parents, made this like reading a tale of a girl escaping from a cult.

Although short internet was lively and both main characters were very interesting and held my attention from start to finish. I'm very glad that I found this new author. Great job!
