About this ebook

"A journey of dark deeds versus good deeds, filled with hope and humor. Danger and rescue scenes keep the pages turning, while a slow-burn romance promises more to come."

Julie Klassen, author of The Seaside Homecoming

Evil is masquerading in the halls of Parliament, and Sir Bertrand Thorndike is tasked with investigating from the inside. With his new position as a member of the House of Commons, he has access to the power brokers of English government. His tactic is to listen and learn, careful not to reveal his true motives, and he’s quickly inducted into the mysterious Theban Club.

Miss Philippa Cashel's mission, the Princess Charlotte Eleos School for Women in Need, is thriving with donations, and the students are learning skills to help them earn their livings in honorable ways. But when a dear friend's past is revealed by blackmail, Philippa must wrestle with the question, Is it ever right to do the wrong thing?

Bertie's and Philippa's missions collide when Bertie uncovers a dangerous plot involving vulnerable women. He and Philippa join forces against the corruption threatening to topple England's government, all while navigating their outward reputations and inward feelings for each other.

"This story brims with intrigue, danger, and memorable characters, and is sure to please any Regency lover."

Michelle Griep, Christy Award–winning author of Of Gold and Shadows

Another intriguing episode in the annals of Haverly House, with the dashing Sir Bertrand Thorndike at the helm. Start to finish, Vetsch continues to captivate her readers with her historical settings, Regency-era nuances and slow-burn romances (with swoony heroes, of course). This book is suitable for teens and older with no inappropriate intimate scenes and no bad language. I received this book from the author/publisher free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.

Another harrowing adventure full of danger and mystery. It was heartwarming to witness the budding friendship blossoming into the beginnings of something more. The political intrigue was just that…intriguing! I found myself really invested in learning the ins and outs of historical parliament alongside our hero! All of the side mysteries were drawn together very nicely. The writing flows beautifully and the ratio of character focus to plotline momentum is right on par. HIGHLY recommended story!
