A Lume Spento, prima raccolta poetica di Ezra Pound, fu pubblicata a Venezia nel 1908 in tiratura limitatissima a spese dell’autore, allora ventitreenne. Per lungo tempo rimasta ai margini della sua produzione, anche e soprattutto a causa delle severe critiche che lo stesso poeta le rivolse in più occasioni, è in realtà un edificio poetico eclettico e complesso, che merita di essere riscoperto non solo per approfondire la conoscenza degli esordi di un autore tanto discusso, ma anche per gettare un nuovo sguardo sui lavori più maturi, in particolare sui Cantos. A Lume Spento testimonia infatti già quell’abilità po(i)etica che, sviluppata a un più alto grado di consapevolezza, avrebbe reso Pound uno degli autori fondamentali della letteratura mondiale.

Ezra Pound (1885-1972), poeta, saggista e traduttore statunitense, è considerato un punto di riferimento fondamentale nella storia letteraria del ’900. La sua opera è vasta, multiforme e complessa, e trova la sua massima espressione nei Cantos.
