Warum besuchten Angehorige der romischen Plebs offentliche Versammlungen? Ausgehend von den materiellen Annehmlichkeiten des romischen Volkes (lat. Commoda plebis Romanae) geht Fabian Knopf der Frage nach, welche Motive die Partizipation der nichtelitaren Bevolkerungsteile an offentlichen, nichtbeschlussfassenden Versammlungen im spatrepublikanischen Rom stimulierten. DAbei werden auch Motive untersucht, die jenseits von sachbezogenen Beweggrunden wie commoda anzusiedeln sind. IN diesem Sinne wird die Partizipation der Plebs generell als Phanomen der romischen Kultur bewertet und analysiert.

Fabian Knopf ist Stipendiat an der Hebräischen Universität in Jerusalem. Zuvor war er Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl für Alte Geschichte der TU Dresden.
