The Clock Struck One

Julian Edermont occupies the Red House as a virtual prisoner -- gates barred at all times, household members locked in their rooms after dark -- fearful for his life from an unnamed assailant. When his ward, Miss Dora Carew, brings her fiancé Dr Allen Scott to look in on Edermont, Scott suddenly breaks their engagement, citing a dark secret revealed by Edermont that he cannot reveal even to Dora. Discovering that everyone around her seems to know the secret but refuses to share it, Dora vows to discover the truth on her own, a quest which is complicated by the murder of Edermont under circumstances that implicate Dr Scott.
