Madeira, 57x22 km Fläche, bis 1862 m emporsteigend, mit einer der höchsten Klippen Europas, dem Cabo Girao, mit einem Primärwald, der schon seit Millionen Jahren auf der Erde existiert, mit mehreren tausend Kilometer Levadas zum Transport und zur Verteilung von Wasser, aber nur 35 km Autobahn. Mit einem Klima, das an der Nordküste Regen und Nebel, an der Südküste Sonnenschein und in der Mitte alles auf einmal hervorbringt, und das in nur wenigen Kilometern Abstand. Die Insel und ihre Natur erzählen Geschichten, die im vorliegenden Buch in über 1500 Fotos abgebildet sind, zumindest habe ich das versucht.
