Und wer nach den Ursachen der so häufigen Armut, Hungersnöte, Kriege, Korruption sucht, erwähnt vermutlich die historischen Fakten der Kolonisation und Ausbeutung vieler afrikanischer Regionen und Länder. Es gibt jedoch einen anderen wichtigen, weitgehend vergessenen Faktor, der verhindert, dass sich in Afrika friedliche Gesellschaften entwickeln, und den die Afrikaner*innen selbst beseitigen müssen: die exorbitante Gewalt an Kindern, die es den meisten Ländern des Kontinents gibt: Der Autor nennt sie "das afrikanische Trauma".
