(His long career in radio is documented in his other book, Treadmill to Oblivion). This is one of the best “Thematic” (in other words, using vignettes of the author’s life instead of I was born in Topeka, KS in 1906). Fred Allen was a humorist and radio comedian in the 1940’s and 1940’s. He had a flat, dry, midwestern wit and owned every punchline he ever said. He would have been top banana of all radio comedians if it weren’t for that darn thorn in his shirts JACJ BENNY. These two had a mock feud for years! Their ratings never waned. I love Allen’s writing. You will, too.
