Mein Name ist Kellkini, Tim Kellkini. Aber es ist gewiss nicht mein richtiger Name, denn diesen werde ich nie erfahren. Als mich damals die Soldaten aus den Händen der Indianer befreiten, weil ich zweifellos ein Kind weißer Abstammung war, zählte ich etwa drei Jahre. Und als sie mich fragten, wie mein Name sei, da sagte ich immer nur »Kellkini, Kellkini«, nichts anderes als »Kellkini«, und wahrscheinlich hatte ich ihre Fragen nicht einmal verstanden. Ich konnte nur Kellkini sagen. Es war gewiss ein indianisches Wort und wurde von mir nur verstümmelt ausgesprochen. Der Armee-Scout brachte mich zu einer Mission der Jesuiten, die mich aufzogen und von jenem Armee-Scout gesagt bekamen, dass ich Kellkini heiße und er mir den Vornamen Tim gegeben habe. Und so heiße ich auch jetzt noch, als ich diese Geschichte meines Lebens schreibe: Tim Kellkini. Denn jeder Mensch muss ja wohl einen Namen haben. Mir war er recht ...
