Der Liebesroman »Wanda« wurde von Gerhart Hauptmann 1928 zunächst als Fortsetzungsgeschichte in einer Zeitung veröffentlicht. Noch im selben Jahr erschien »Wanda« als Roman. Die Geschichte über das schwierige Verhältnis eines bekannten Künstlers zu einer Frau im Roman »Wanda« weist zahlreiche Parallelen zu Gerhart Hauptmanns eigenem Leben auf.
