About this ebook

From Glen Cook, the godfather of Grimdark, comes Chronicles of the Black Company, an omnibus comprising of The Black Company, Shadows Linger, and The White Rose—the first omnibus volume of the bestselling fantasy series, with millions of copies in print.

Darkness wars with darkness as the hard-bitten men of the Black Company take their pay and do what they must. They bury their doubts with their dead.

Then comes the prophecy: The White Rose has been reborn, somewhere, to embody good once more...

I can't understand how Glenn Cook is not a household name as Tolkien. Among the elite fantasy authors, he's up there with Bakker, Gaiman, Abercrombie and Lawrence, and his fiction is going on 40years in print. Gritty, disjointed penmanship makes the realism, as well as excellent use of Murphy's law. The characters are all faceted, none wholly good nor evil. And a plot you can't predict... Best read I've had in ages, and books I won't lend out.

Glen Cook doesn't give you every swing of the sword, but that takes nothing away from this story of brothers in arms. The characters are the story here, not the fighting. This story is as much advanced by the lulls in action as it the parts wherein the Black Company fights for it's very existence. Glen Cook writes in a manner that would make any veteran nostalgic for his unit of old.
