Ascension Saga: 5

This book continues in the second segment of this series which will focus on Princess Faith and Thor’s story (Vol 2: Books 4-6). Queen Celene was moved to solitary confinement by her mercenary captors. And now she knew the name of one of her enemies who had betrayed her. Lord Wyse, or Inspector Optimi of the Optimus unit, her cousin, stood before her with eyes blazing with hatred and fanaticism. She was starving, cold, becoming ill – yet she had the proud bearing of the queen she still was. His being here meant that he was not the mastermind she was working to identify. Perhaps their plans were falling apart? It was now up to Celene’s daughters to defend the planet, and the citadel would help them. Faith was safe in the palace now, but the Ardor was making her miserable, especially since the man she wanted was locked in the dungeon, chained to the wall. They all thought he was part of the scheme to kidnap her mother. He had freely admitted that Zel the traitor was a childhood friend. But they didn’t believe that Thor had nothing to do with the kidnapping and attempted assassinations. Faith and Trinity talked about Faith’s rescue, finding her with Thor. The more they talked, the more Faith wanted answers from him. And she told Trinity she was going to the dungeon to face him directly and find out the truth. Thor regretted that he didn’t take the time to learn more about Faith and to let her know the kind of man he was, honorable and truthful. Now, in the dungeon, he can’t stop thinking about her. He had heard Trinity tell her that the Jax family had a traitor who had sent Zel to kill the sisters within hours of their arrival from Earth. They assumed that traitor to be Thor. When Faith goes to the dungeon and confronts him, she is torn with loyalty to her family and to her mate. But as she kisses him and joins with his body, she finally knows the truth – she knows he is innocent, she believes him. When Thor had thought she was the traitor in the Jax family, he had saved her anyway. He was an honorable man. And she loved him. This excellent installment of the Ascension Saga, part of the “Interstellar Brides” universe, is full of excitement. Lord Wyse was now trying to question Queen Celene to no avail. The suspense continues as the story moves back to the palace with Thor in the dungeon as the traitor. Faith is ready to join Thor in finding the traitor in the Jax family. Their feelings for each other are stronger than ever. Where will the story take them now . . . ?

*SPOILER Alert* First let me preface, Grace is my favorite writer. Interstellar Brides is my favorite series ever. So this is a little hard for me to write, but I need to be honest in my review. I’m disappointed in Thor damnit! After everything that’s happened so far, the fact that he walked away from Faith kind of pissed me off after the sacrifices she made for him... I understand it’s setting up this glorious and sure to be romantic coming back together in the next book, but to me, the end was completely out of the character that Thordis (Thor) was developed into. Why in the hell after treason accusations, defying family and even death would he walk away from her now? Yes, yes he’s protecting her. Book 4 and 95% of book 5 (this book) it was balls to the wall chemistry and “we belong together so eff anyone who says otherwise”. WHY would he walk away from her? His parents just died in front of them, his mother is involved in the treason, Zel’s betral, and the dick known as Lord Wyse.... In my opinion this was a chance to make a stronger bond, not crush Faith. How does she know he won’t walk away again once they get back together in the next book? Oh well, it’s just my opinion so take it for what it’s worth after reading every book she’s ever written... Alright now good things...Aside from a main character going out of his created persona, it’s all beginning to come together who’s involved in the plot to destroy Queen Celene and her daughters, a hint at why as well. So we are now set up to conclude Faith’s story. We see where Trinity and Leo are with little peeks here and there (which I love when you’re kept current with past characters) and how she’s dealing with being on the throne. So after book 6 in January, we’re on to Destiny’s Story. I have this gut feeling she’s going to end up with Nix. If so I think that is going to be explosive... two tough as nails, passionate and protective people... whoo wee baby! This, being the 5th part is great! it follows on from where we left off in book 4 and the drama continues, as does the intrigue! Faith and Jax are determined to find the traitor in the Jax household, especially as Faith had been accused of that!
