This book includes many inspiring stories showing God’s great power and love. First and Second Kings were originally one book named the “Books of the Kings. ” The account begins with a unified kingdom and ends with divided kingdoms followed by Babylonian captivity. First Kings covers the reign of Solomon, including the building of the First Temple by King Solomon; the ministry of Elijah; and the reign of Ahab. Second Kings contains the record of two great national tragedies: the fall of the northern kingdom, Israel, in 721 BC and the fall of Judah with the destruction of Jerusalem, in 586 BC including the destruction of the First Temple. Second Kings also contains the account of the ministries of Elijah and Elisha. During the period recorded in this book, Israel received warnings and exhortations from Amos and Hosea, and a number of prophets arose in Judah, including Isaiah and Jeremiah. The account concludes with the people of Judah in captivity in Babylon.
About the author
Harold Lerch is a retired Professional Engineer. Lerch accepts the view that the Bible is God's Word and gives an account of real, historical events including that Special Creation is the true origin of all matter, time, and life.
