In leicht verständlicher Form werden in diesem Band zentrale Themen reformatorischer Theologie im Überblick dargestellt. Dabei geht es auch darum zu fragen, wie Grundanliegen der großen Reformatoren (Luther, Melanchthon, Zwingli, Calvin, Erasmus von Rotterdam) in unsere Zeit hinein vermittelt werden können und wo auch Grenzen gezogen und andere Wege beschritten werden müssen, damit ihr Potential zur Begründung einer Theologie der Freiheit und der Toleranz zur Geltung gebracht werden kann. Das kann gelingen, wenn auch die oft abgeblendeten, aber bedeutsamen Einflüsse des Humanismus stärker wahrgenommen werden.
