Das Universum besteht nach Größe geordnet aus Elektronen, Protonen, Atome, Moleküle, Staubpartikel, Gaswolken, Meteoriten (Durchmesser: Millimeter bis Meter), Asteroiden und Kometen (Durchmesser: wenige Kilometer bis mehrere 100 km), Monde, Planeten, Planetensysteme, Sterne, Sternenhaufen, Galaxien, Galaxie-Cluster, Superhaufen, fadenartige Filamente, Voids und noch größere zusammenhängende Strukturen bis hin zu einem riesigen kosmischen Netz, das an den Knotenpunkten gleich mehrere Galaxien ansammelt. Die Form des Universums ist bislang unbekannt. Durch die Theorie des Urknalls bzw. einer Explosion könnte man vermuten, dass der Kosmos kugelförmig ist oder eine Trompetenform aufweist.
