Se qualcuno gli avesse detto che era un romanzo sperimentale, Fleming lo avrebbe probabilmente inseguito con la frusta. Ma che «La spia che mi ha amata» sia un esperimento (su Bond) è difficile negarlo. Nella prima parte del libro («Io») Vivienne Michel ci parla dei suoi rapporti con gli uomini fino a quel momento; nella seconda («Loro») dei guai in cui ha finito per cacciarsi; nella terza («Lui»), quando la storia sembra avviarsi alla conclusione, suona alla porta un agente del Servizio Segreto di Sua Maestà. Ai fatti, presi uno a uno dalla sua vita quotidiana, Fleming ha messo la sordina, ma tutto il resto – a cominciare dal sesso, e non del genere più soave – lo ha raccontato al massimo del volume. Finendo per scrivere il suo libro, paradossalmente, più intimo. E il meno classificabile.
