Schon bald nach ihrer Hochzeit entdeckt Liddy die sadistische Ader ihres Mannes Arthur. Nach der Geburt ihres Sohnes gerät er zunehmend außer Kontrolle. Sie informiert die Polizei und reicht die Scheidung ein. Arthurs Anwälten gelingt es jedoch, Liddy als nicht zurechnungsfähig hinzustellen. Während Liddy um ihr Sorgerecht kämpft, werden weibliche Leichen gefunden, die Opfer eines äußerst brutalen Serienkillers.

Jack Ketchum ist das Pseudonym des ehemaligen Schauspielers, Lehrers, Literaturagenten und Holzverkäufers Dallas Mayr. Er gilt heute als einer der absoluten Meister des Horror-Genres. 2011 wurde er zum Grand Master der World Horror Convention ernannt. Er erhielt fünfmal den Bram Stoker Award, sowie 2015 den Lifetime Achievement Award der Horror Writers Association. Jack Ketchum verstarb am 24. Januar 2018 in New York City, New York.
