Im Gegenlicht der aufschwingenden Tür leuchtete das rote Haar der Frau einen Moment lang wie ein Feuerkranz um ihr Gesicht. Sie trat die Tür zu und erwiderte: "Mach dich nicht unglücklich, Lennie. Lass den Revolver fallen und alles wird gut."
"Unsinn." Er knurrte zornig. "Das Gute besiegt das Böse. Dafür sorge ich jetzt."
Statt einer Antwort riss sie die Tür wieder auf. Auf der hellen Veranda stand Lennie Grossmans Tochter Elisabeth. Sie war kreidebleich. Der große blonde Revolvermann hinter ihr hielt sie umklammert und presste ihr die Mündung seines Sechsschüssers unter das Kinn.
