Erschauernd schloss Violetta Morgan ihre Pelzjacke bis obenhin und stülpte sich die gefütterte Kapuze über den Kopf. Im hintersten Winkel der Hütte herrschte Halbdunkel, denn durch das winzige glaslose Fenster und den schmalen offenen Eingang drang nur wenig Tageslicht. Immer wieder fegten die Böen einen Schwall eisiger Luft herein.
"Mein Gott, Rodney, ich weiß nicht, wie ich dir danken soll", sagte Violetta zähneklappernd, als ihr Begleiter auf sie zukam. "Wenigstens bin ich erst einmal in Sicherheit."
"Bist du nicht", antwortete er und richtete seinen Revolver auf ihre Stirn.
