Oluf Munck var en dansk læge, som udvandrede til hollandsk Øst-Indien og som blev tilknyttet det hollandske militær (KNIL). Da japanerne invaderede Java i 1942 blev han involveret i modstandsarbejdet, og da han valgte at overhøre advarslerne om at han var blevet afsløret, gik han uundgåeligt sin skæbne i møde. Han blev arresteret af japanerne, tortureret og halshugget. Bogen fortæller Oluf Muncks historie. Den er skrevet af hans barnebarn Jakob Munck (f. 1948).
