About the author
For the past 18 years, Jan Braai has been at the head of the National Braai Day initiative, aiming to unite all 60 million South Africans around fires on 24 September every year. During this time, Jan acquired two MBAs: his Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Cape Town and his Masters in Braai Activities from the University of Life. The New York Times named National Braai Day as ‘one of the most significant cultural celebrations in the world’. Ever growing, an estimated 15–20 million South Africans take part in National Braai Day celebrations each year. Jan Braai is the author of six best-selling books on the topic of braai, which have also been translated into a few languages and published internationally. He is the presenter of the highly acclaimed television show Jan Braai vir Erfenis on DStv’s Kyknet and Showmax, which is now in its twelfth season. He is an active sportsman and, when not around a braai fire, spends his free time riding a bicycle, paddling or running. YOU magazine calls him ‘just the type of guy you want at your braai’.
