Er legte eine kurze Pause ein. Dann hörte ich wieder seine Stimme. "Es geht um Geschöpfe, Mister Sinclair. Eigentlich Tiere. Sogar Vögel, aber auch das ist ein falscher Ausdruck. In Wirklichkeit ist es mehr, viel mehr." Da er eine Pause einlegte, fragte ich: "Was denn?" "Ich - ich - glaube nicht mehr an Vögel. Und ich glaube auch nicht an Menschen, obwohl sie so aussehen. Ja, ich hatte den Eindruck, Menschen zu sehen, die durch die Luft schwebten. Aber so richtig zufrieden konnte ich damit auch nicht sein ..."
