Why do so many Americans reject the modern theory of evolution? Why does creationism, thoroughly refuted by scientists, retain such popularity among the public? Is the perceived conflict between evolution and Christianity genuine, or is it merely an illusion peculiar to Protestant fundamentalism? The author has a great interest in the subject. He has not only talked to a lot of people and gone to conferences but also done a lot of background research and is well read. His arguments are clearly laid out, and he points out Creationists' fallacies without unduly criticising them personally.
