About this ebook

Will a chance encounter change her life forever?

Robbed of her home and job by the Great Depression, the future looks bleak for Iris Macintosh - until a chance encounter with America's spirited First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt. Propelled by Eleanor into the brilliant inner circle of the White House, Iris finds herself at the centre of momentous change ... and her heart torn between two men. But her loyalty lies with a third: the complicated and charismatic President Roosevelt, who will ultimately force her to question everything she believes in.

While the world is in turmoil, one woman's life is transformed.

A compelling story of politics and power, love and loss, set in one of the most exciting and cataclysmic periods of history.

About the author

I’m an author of contemporary fiction, historical fiction and non-fiction. I have published my books in Australia, New Zealand, USA and Europe.

I’m also an English teacher and I’ve been lucky enough to introduce the love of language to many students around the world.

I guess this also planted the seed of an idea that I should give writing a go myself

Sydney, Australia, is where I was born and raised, but prior to my reinvention as a writer (which had something to do with a friendly argument with my husband!), I held the position of Head of English at Eaton House The Manor in London’s Clapham Common. I also taught English and Drama for eight years at a selective high school in Sydney, and for five years at a private girls’ college in Canberra.

Whether I’ve been at home, living and working in another country, or travelling for the sake of adventure, I have never spent a single day without a book by my side. This meant slipping from the act of reading into the act of writing didn’t actually seem that much of a change.

I’ve long been a fan of great historical fiction writers such as Hilary Mantel, but I also spend quality time with books by authors from other genres, such as Margaret Atwood, Kate Atkinson, Karen Brooks, Tim Winton, Ian McEwan, Jane Austen, John Irving and E. Annie Proulx.

I live in Canberra, Australia with my husband, two sons, and a lively Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Mick.

I enjoy running, swimming and yoga daily, as I believe staying active is an integral component of a happy writing life. You can visit me at www.jennybondbooks.com.au.
